I have been on my tea journey for almost 2 years so I just consider my pantry and a rather large section of my kitchen counter being taken over by tea just means that I just have options—ummmmm lots of options when deciding on which cup to brew. I have a bunch of brand new samples I have never tried so I decided that December would be a great time to play catch up and try a bunch of these. A fun way to do this would be to make my own tea advent calendar to try 24 days of yummy tea.
Tea Advent calendars
Last year I purchased some awesome tea advent calendars by David’s tea and the English Tea Shop. They were wonderful and trust me I am still absolutely tempted to buy another but looking around at all of the various samples I already have including brands like Adagio, David’s Tea, Harney and Sons, Stash, Berteas I could not wait to try making my own.
Tea Samples
Luckily I have received a ton of samples by either placing tea orders or reorders as well as the samples in my Sips by monthly subscription box or in tea swaps so now was the fun time of deciding which 24 to try. I chose to go with 12 days of bagged and 12 days loose leaf that I had never tried by the particular companies before.
Anyone for tea
Although I do have quite an abundance of tea I thought creating a tea advent could be something fun for anyone to do even just rotate the teas they currently drink to mix it up a bit. It could make a fun tea gift so this is how I made mine.
Advent Choice
Well I hopped on Amazon and looked around at the various kinds of Advent calendars and was drawn to one that looked like individual gift sacks that had cute hearts, trees, or stockings with the count down numbers on the front. I liked the versatility of this calendar, the individual bags could be strung down a banister, hung on a wall or mantle, added to a tree etc. I checked the bags were large enough to fit tea and ordered my $12 steal.
Surprise!
I placed my individual Advent sacks on my table but I wanted a surprise daily so I turned them face side down and mixed them up completely. Then I stuffed each one with tea and tied them. One of the tea packages I am dying to try was not a sample so I sealed some of that tea in a small clear zip bag and labeled it with what tea and company it was.
Location
As this particular advent is very versatile for placement and comes with a long red ribbon my first thought was to have it coming down my banister but in the end I decided to add it to a metal wall hanging as it’s close to the kitchen and would be cute to look at. I shortened the loops by adding some mask adjusters (I knew they had more than one use). I absolutely love how it turned out. Some people like Advent Calendars in numerical order-I just decided to leave mine mixed up just to drive those people in my family nuts 🙂
As I look at my advent I am getting thirsty-Hurry up December 1st!!
