10 minute 5 ingredient Simple and Easy Eggs Benedict

Nothing goes down with a cup of tea for brunch or lunch better than Eggs Benedict. I find some cooking shows make this dish seem so complicated but this one is so easy and done in less than 10 minutes. Here are my tips and shortcuts on how to make my yummy, easy 5 ingredient Eggs Benedict. Be prepared to surprise your guests.

Ingredients per person

  • Egg
  • English Muffin cut in half
  • Canadian Bacon 1 slice
  • Mayonnaise 1 tbsp
  • Lemon juice approx 1 tsp

You can lighten the recipe with non fat mayo and low calorie muffin. Once perfected add the topping of your choice.

Poaching styles

Some people (mostly cooks) have the way to poach eggs solely by placing them in water-I’m not that talented so I rely on my handy poacher for my simple 5 ingredient Eggs Benedict recipe.

How to

While the egg is poaching, toast the ½ English muffin Brown and heat up the Canadian bacon in a frying pan (with some cooking spray) on medium about 1 minute per side. In a small bowl combine the mayonnaise with a squeeze of lemon juice-about a teaspoon if you use the cheating lemon in a plastic bottle-Shhh don’t tell any chef that. This process is pretty fast so you want to keep an eye on your eggs.

Egg Timing

Eggs are usually added to a poacher when the water is simmering. It may take a few tries to get the eggs and timing the way you like it. For a Runny yolk 3-4 minutes. I do mine at 4. If you prefer a harder yolk 5 minutes.

Never used an egg poacher?

Egg poachers are awesome. They come in various sizes and styles and can fit any budget. I own a single one as well as one that cooks 4 eggs but there are bigger ones than that.

How to poach an egg in a poacher

Put some cooking spray like Pam to grease the poaching cups you are using before you add the egg. Make sure you grease all around the inside of the cup.

Add 1 egg to each egg cup you would like to use.

Poacher options

Read the instructions for the water level of your poacher. It is usually about ¼ of the pan.

The cups should sit flat in the cupholder and not bounce around on the water. If they do the water is too high so make sure you have the right depth of water before you start.

Option 1

Boil the water in the poacher pan on high.

When the water is boiling turn the heat low so that it simmers.

Add the egg tray and egg cups to the pan

Place the lid on the pan.

I add all the cups in the egg tray whether they have an egg in them or not.

Option 2

You can also leave the egg tray on the poacher and at the simmering stage add the cups.

Option 3

If you are nervous about putting the poacher cups and tray onto the pan when the water is boiling you can do everything the same but start with the eggs already in the greased cups, in the tray on the water in the pan. Keep everything together with the lid on. When the water starts to boil to your best judgement turn the water down. Make sure and pay attention to when the water starts to boil or the pan will overflow.

My latest poacher is for 4 and it has a glass cover so I can see how my eggs are doing but my old one and single one did not. These are great poachers just remove the lid with a towel or mitt to check the eggs.

Whether you are a new, novice or a cook that needs a simple recipe I hope you enjoy this easy 10 minute go to dish. Don’t forget to top it off  by adding a yummy cup of tea.
