Garden Party on a budget

My hot tea drinking daughter, a top notch tea reviewer, decided to have a garden party.  Trying not to be too overbearing with my thoughts and suggestions we went on her idea of garden party on a budget. The date was chosen it was full steam ahead. The Mad Hatter and Alice would be very pleased with the results.

Her thoughts

For food

S’mores

My husband loved the idea of S’mores as he had plenty of sticks that needed to be burned in our fire pit. The only thing we did not have were any S’mores forks. I hopped on Amazon for a pack of 10 that were a great price. We decided on MalloMe 32″ Telescoping Forks. Keeping with her budget.

The drinks

My suggestion: tea, tea and more tea???

Her idea, she wanted

  • Raspberry Lemonade
  • Tea Drops tea Sweet Peppermint as an Iced tea
  • Infused and regular water
Raspberry lemonade, lemon and cucumber infused water and Tea Drops Tea Iced Sweet Peppermint

As Tea Drops tea have been such a hit with the teens I hopped on amazon for another Tea Drops Tea Sampler Set as we did not have the kind she wanted. You could use any combination of drinks, hot or cold.

Decoration

To add some decor we hit the Dollar Tree for her budget friendly party.

At the Dollar Tree we purchased

  • A white tablecloth
  • Green Plastic plates (to use again)
  • Green plastic mugs (to use again)
  • Napkins
  • Green plastic serving trays
  • A few hanging lanterns

You could use paper plates and cups or use plates and cups you currently own.

Items to be borrowed

A few extra chairs from her uncle

Team work

She made the sausage rolls with a friend the night before the party and we hard boiled eggs for the sandwiches.

The day of the party

It was all go. Her Dad was out there mowing, cleaning the deck and grabbing sticks for the fire.

My non hot tea drinking daughter was in charge of the fruit tray and buttering bread for the salmon and cucumber sandwiches (I had already cut the bread in quarters) I added the salmon and cucumber.

Hot tea drinking daughter and a friend made the large batch of 8 hard boiled eggs for the egg salad sandwiches.

My husband ended up on scones detail.

The girls made the drinks.

How to make Iced sweet peppermint Lemon Drops Tea

To make Tea Drops tea you use 1 tea drop for every 8-10 oz of water. As she wanted a larger amount of tea she used 2 tea drops and 16oz of water in a teapot and stirred it. She filled a pitcher full of ice, poured the tea over the ice and put it in the refrigerator for a few hours to put it in another container later.

Her friend’s infused water was water with lemon and cucumber that was also left in the fridge for a few hours-yummy and refreshing.

The table cloths, plates, cups, and decoration were all set up…even with place cards for seating. I grabbed 3 small bunches of flowers at Trader Joe’s $3.99 each for the table (but that would be optional for another garden party).

Let the party begin.

This garden party on a budget was more than a success. It was a huge hit!

The S’mores MalloMe 32″Telescoping Forks were perfect too as they have a self twist so you do not have to rotate the sticks. The teens loved this feature. Maybe if I read the packaging I would have known that. Anyway those were great.

We had wonderful weather for the party but it has been one of the rainy years in central Texas and that brings on my favorite friend, the mosquito. We added citronella candles and bug spray too. Anything to keep guests happy.

Have you ever had a garden party? Maybe this one on a budget can give you some ideas.

Her Dad envisions another S’mores night for her friends as there are more sticks to burn.
