Shaka tea Blue Magic package

Be The Aloha with Shaka Blue Magic Tea

As they have not hired a security guard to keep me out of World Market yet-I ventured in the store yet again. You know what happens when I hit the tea section, a brand new tea gets purchased. It’s madness!! I went in to repurchase Hot Cinnamon Sunset by Harney tea, then I used my normal scientific method of choosing a new tea-I liked the packaging. The tea calling to me this time was Blue Magic by Shaka teas.

Tea Journey

What has been truly fascinating about this tea purchase, besides the tea itself, is that I have learnt so many new things just researching information on it. I felt just like Alice did on her journey to Wonderland.  I love my tea adventure!

The Tea

The packaging

I chose Shaka Blue Magic because of the cute design on the packaging. The bright colors and imagery made me hopeful that this meant this would be a fun tea.

Butterfly Pea

I have wanted to try a Butterfly Pea tea for a while now. Butterfly pea is a tea that is supposed to change color.  How cool is that? I was ready to put the kettle on the moment I picked up the package.

A powerhouse tea

Besides being yummy tea has many health benefits, there are so many that are good for you. Blue Magic tea seems to have a great combo. Finding one that has three powerhouses in the product and still be fun too-was definitely worth a try.

Health Benefits

Butterfly Pea is a plant from south Asia that is considered a traditional medicinal plant. It is supposed to help with stress, sleep, memory and many other things.

Another ingredient/plant in this tea is Mimaki-I had no clue what Mimaki was so I checked it out.

Mimaki is a plant in the nettle family and what’s special is it is only native to Hawaii. It is an ancient medicinal plant that has been revered within the Hawaiian culture for centuries. Some health benefits of this plant is it is supposed to help with stomach issues, stress, fatigue and so much more.

Lemon grass helps with pain, swelling, reduce fever

This tea is caffeine free and sugar free

Brewing Directions

  • Steep one bag for 5-15 minutes for desired strength.
  • Tea bag can be reused for a second brew.

Our Thoughts

I got my team of  topnotch reviewers together-my husband, hot tea drinking daughter and myself. We decided to try the tea at a 15 minute brew. We had a few sips of the tea (without the lemon) then added the lemon to try magic. I was surprised the original color was vibrant green but then with the lemon became blue and purple to finally almost a purple of mine. My cohorts thought it’s original taste was flowery and I said a bit earthy. We enjoyed the flavor. Adding the lemon of course more lemony.

Shaka Tea Hawaii website

There is so much to their website and definitely worth a visit. It discusses ideas from their own kitchen, their Mimaki conservation, retail and tours that sound like so much fun.

Then there is the Be The Aloha videos that are various people storytelling the values, practices and actions of Aloha. I really enjoyed it.

If you have a few minutes I really would suggest checking out the series and looking around the site.

Be The Aloha

On the packaging it has the wording Be The Aloha. Although I knew Aloha means hello and goodbye I have discovered without one simple definition or translation it means so much more.  It can also mean having love, compassion for yourself and sharing your life, passion and joy with others. Treating each other with mutual respect and kindness. Living a genuine life. That only touches the surface of what it means but it really is beautiful.

So as I drink my tea I think I may want to add a little Aloha to my life. I hope you can try to be the Aloha too.
