American Classic Tea and the Charleston Tea Plantation

I am so lucky that my family and friends appreciate my tea madness. They have given me many wonderful tea gifts over the years-Yay! Here are a few of my latest collection, two types of tea infusers, a teaspoon, tea coaster and American Classic tea. What am I to do with all of these wonderful new tea items? Why, put the kettle on, of course.

American Classic Tea

My brother recently visited the Charleston Tea Plantation in South Carolina. I had no idea there was a tea plantation in Charleston! He told me all about it when he returned and how much I would love it. He brought back some wonderful gifts from there. I have the best big brother! I needed to check it out so I hopped on their website.

Charleston tea Plantation Website

The website is very descriptive here are some highlights.

  • The Charleston Plantation is one of the biggest tea producers in the US with 127 acres of land
  • They use the Camellia Sinensis tea plant
  • They produce varieties of black and green tea
  • Their teas contain NO herbicides, fungicides or insecticides
  • They are open 7 days a week
  • They do factory tours, trolley tours, group tours, school tours and individual tours
  • There is a gift shop carrying tea and tea related items
  • There is also a tea bar

What to expect at the time of visit

SPRING-the harvest begins in May

SUMMER-harvesting and production is in full swing

AUTUMN- full harvesting ends at the end of September, beginning of October. During this time the Camellia Sinensis plants begin to bloom

WINTER-you still experience a working farm

The true tea test

As I was scrolling around the site and waiting for my tea I decided to make the American Classic tea 2 different ways. I would do a teapot method, per tea canister instructions, as well as an infuser method (I have been dying to use my Mr. Tea infuser since I received it).

Brewing Directions

According to the canister the ingredients are just South Carolina grown black tea. That’s it.

Teaz lime green teapot, Teaz teapot infuser, Blue American Classic Black tea and Tin, David's Tea yellpw and purple perfect spoon filled with loose tea.

Teapot method

8oz of water

1 rounded teaspoon of tea steep 2-4 minutes to desired taste

Mr Tea Infuser tea

Same method

Taste testers

So my loyal taste testers were at the ready. My hot tea drinking husband, hot tea drinking daughter and myself. The infuser and teapot both produced wonderful cups of this yummy black tea. It was very tasty and not overpowering. Per tea preference and my normal black tea ritual I added milk, my husband added honey and my daughter had it plain. We all really enjoyed it.

My brother thoroughly enjoyed his trip to Charleston, South Carolina, and I am sure the tea plantation must have been a highlight on this trip. I can not wait until I have the opportunity to go out there myself. In the meantime I found that Amazon carries this brand and a variety of flavors and I can not wait to check them out, the Rockville Raspberry tea is high on my list to try.

Seeing as the Charleston Tea Plantation is one of the bigger tea producers in the US I was curious about other tea farms I could visit. This got me looking around at various tea producing areas in the US and there are more than I thought. I can’t wait to check some out. More of those blog posts to come 🙂

Have you ever been to a tea farm?
