Magnolia Market at the Silos

Magnolia Market at the Silos

My husband and I were driving through Waco recently when we realized if we kept driving we would hit Austin at the height of rush hour. If you’ve ever been to Austin during rush hour traffic you know you are at a standstill. We had 2 choices-rush hour traffic or a stop at Magnolia Market at the Silos. Magnolia won!

Magnolia Market at the Silos

Magnolia Market is a popular attraction in Waco started by Chip and Joanna Gaines. Chip and Joanna came to fame over 5 seasons of the TV show Fixer Upper. During the run of their show they had a small shop called Magnolia and they remodeled and decorated homes in Waco and the surrounding area. They expanded their dream when the show was airing and created Magnolia Market at the Silos.

Timing is everything

I love Fixer Upper and I have been dying to come out to Magnolia Market for quite a while. A lot of my friends have visited or taken out of town guests there. Everyone has said it is well worth the visit but the one word of advice I have received about Magnolia Market is how popular it is and to get there early. What I discovered if you go at 3 o’clock on a whim on a Wednesday afternoon when school is in session and to avoid Austin traffic, it’s perfect.

The Iconic Silos

There was quite a bit of road work being done on the exit we were going to take to towards Magnolia but with the aid of Google maps we found our way and could not miss the Iconic Silos.

What exactly is Magnolia Market at the Silos?

Even though I’m a fan of the show and watched the progress of Magnolia Market on TV I didn’t really know what to expect besides the main shop so this is what I found.

  • Magnolia-The main shop with home decor and clothing
  • Magnolia Seed Supply-A garden shop that is housed within a garden with herbs and produce
  • Silos Baking Company
  • Tons of seating areas
  • A lawn for people to sit around on or play some games on. Cornhole is already a feature.
  • A variety of food trucks.

All of this with such a country feel and charm that would feel like a small town within a city.

Our Day

My husband and I shopped for a while in the main store then we stopped by the food trucks and had the yummiest grilled cheese sandwich with a watermelon and mint salad from the Cheddar Box food truck. As it is still really hot in central Texas, we sat under the misters and one of the open seating areas.  We visited the herb and produce garden and Magnolia seed and supply store. We hung out on the oversized swing and finally grabbed a cupcake called nuts and bolts from Silos Baking Company.

I had a great time shopping and relaxing at Magnolia Market at the Silos and will go again. I recommend it at any time but especially if you know Austin rush hour traffic is waiting for you.

Chip and Joanna

If you can not make it to Magnolia Market at the Silos not to worry Chip and Joanna Gaines have a shopping line at online, at Target and Amazon. Chip and Joanna have both written a book, I need to check them out.

Website

Their website has a ton of information on Magnolia at the Silos, where there is free parking, times the shops are open, things to do and so on. There is information  about some of the homes from the show that are places people can rent and stay. There is also a blog with many of Joanna and Chips articles, that is a blog I will keep an eye on.
