My birthday has been and gone but my tea gifts just keep on giving. I received a couple of new teas by Rishi. I have tried their Masala Chai concentrate but I have never tried their loose tea so I was excited to try two brand new teas on this lazy Sunday afternoon. Out came some infusers and I put the kettle on. Time to relax with some Earl Grey and Lavender Mint.
Two Teas for me
What could sound more different than these two teas? The packaging for both of them were similar so you would definitely realize that it is the Rishi brand. It is clean and simple, very appealing and obviously great for gifts. The packaging listed Earl Grey as an organic scented black tea and the Lavender Mint as an organic botanical blend. The lavender mint container had the description of the blend with the soothing effect and spa aromatics with the herbs and that it is a cup of perfect tranquility. The Earl Grey container had the history of the famous Earl Grey.
Earl Grey History
So who was Earl Grey? And where did this line of tea-no matter how different get its name? According to the Rishi packaging Earl Grey dates to the nineteenth century tea trade. During Charles Grey’s (the second Earl Grey) travels in Canton he was given a scented tea with local citrus blossoms. He shared this tea with friends and it was not long before the tea purveyors of Europe used the technique of infusing black tea with bergamot citrus from Italy.
Earl Grey enthusiasts
Rishi states that their Earl Grey features fragrant essential oil from the exclusive first winter pressing of Calabrian bergamot. They claim that lesser blends rely on bergamot flavor but state that Earl Grey enthusiasts know there is a big difference. They also include that the lilac and citrus notes of Earl Grey go beautifully with their black tea from Southeast Asia.
Earl Grey
I know there is a large variety in Earl Grey teas and I am not sure about their claim. With tea I believe you just drink a bunch and see what flavor you enjoy. So I guess I would not be considered an Earl Grey enthusiast but over time I have become an Earl Grey fan. My absolute favorite is Cream of Earl Grey by Davids tea. It’s very aromatic. It fills my tea carafe for some afternoon tea at work quite often. The Earl Grey by Rishi tea had a much subtler scent.

Our Thoughts
Well I grabbed out a variety of infusers and assembled my topnotch reviewers to try Earl Grey and Lavender Mint.
Earl Grey-As almond milk and soy creamer has snuck into my tea drinking. I added some almond milk to my Earl Grey. This Earl Grey is milder than I normally drink but it was very enjoyable.
Lavender Mint-I added nothing to the Lavender Mint. This will be a nice yummy anytime tea. It was very refreshing.
We all enjoyed these teas and I look forward to trying more.
