I’m always on the search for a new (to me) coffee and tea shop. Many moons ago I discovered a great one in San Antonio. Here’s an oldie but goody-Rise Bakery.
Twirling Angel and sneaky mouse
When my hot tea drinking daughter was little she performed in the Nutcracker ballet. Once as an Angel and twice as a mouse. It was such an exciting time. Boy I miss putting her super long hair in a slick back bun using what seemed like a whole packet of bobby pins and almost a full can of hairspray. I bet she doesn’t :).
The ballet studio was not huge and they really did not like parents hanging around for rehearsals. As I didn’t live close by I stopped by the closest coffee and tea shop for a yummy chai and a panini. They were so good that Rise Bakery became my hangout on those days.
The Nutcracker rehearsed September through December. One rehearsal day in October I was at Rise Bakery grabbing my usual chai when I saw the display for an awesome bread skull filled with spinach dip and some bread skeletal fingers. I ordered one immediately for our Halloween shindig to celebrate my husband’s birthday. Let me tell you-it was a massive hit.
After my daughters first Nutcracker year the ballet company moved to another location in town. I no longer had a reason for my weekly stop at Rise Bakery for my panini and chai. Every Halloween though we always had to call or stop by and order the skull.
Rise Bakery
This year to order the skull we decided to stop by and as usual they did not disappoint.
Rise Bakery is a pretty big space with lots of tables. There are also couches to lounge around on accompanied by coffee tables. Rise Bakery is not very far from a busy highway but you would never guess it when you are in there. It has such a relaxing and welcoming environment- it still feels like an intimate space. They also have an outside seating area.
Rise Bakery also offers Wifi and even printer access for their customers. The printer option is not usually something I see in many coffee and tea shops.
They carry a great selection of tea as well as coffee. You would never go hungry with any Panini there but they also serve breakfast, deli sandwiches, burgers and more. They have their yummy desserts clearly displayed and they are definitely worth a try.
Now I miss my days with my little twirling ballerina but she has moved on to many other things. Luckily I get to relive those memories a little every time I stop by Rise Bakery. I hope you have the time to stop by someday if you are ever San Antonio bound.
