Egg salad sandwiches are the best and a true staple in my family. They are so yummy with any cup of tea. Great for any tea party or lunch and the best part is anyone can make them. By simply perfecting the hard boiled egg (which is easy enough itself) there are only 3 quick steps to make the sandwich. Let’s get to it with some tips and how to’s.
Why egg salad sandwiches?
They are so easy! I usually have a batch of hard boiled eggs prepared in my fridge for the week for extra snack or salad but especially an egg salad sandwich. We have made egg salad sandwiches for years and my husband, my girls and their friends love them
Buying or making hard boiled eggs
You can buy hard boiled eggs but why? Making them is so easy and very similar to the soft boiled egg, it’s all timing. Seriously, who ever wants to be told the old saying that “you can’t even boil an egg?”
How to make hard boiled eggs
I usually do up to 10 eggs but that’s for a family of 4 for the week so I use a large pot. If you do less you can adjust the pot size if you like.
Items needed
- Eggs
- Large saucepan and lid
- Slotted spoon
- Bowl of ice water
Instructions
Place the eggs in the saucepan and cover the eggs with water.
Bring water to a boil over high heat.
As soon as the water starts to boil, turn down the heat to medium
Place the lid on the saucepan and cook for 3 minutes
When the 3 minutes is up turn off the heat
Let the eggs sit in the hot water with the lid still on the saucepan for 12 more minutes.
When those 12 minutes are done, take the slotted spoon and put the eggs in the cold, ice water.
Let them cool.
Egg salad sandwich for one please
Items needed
- 1 Hard Boiled Egg
- 2 slices of bread (your choice wheat/white)
- 1 teaspoon Colman’s mustard
- 1 tablespoon Light Mayonnaise
- Fork
- Knife
- Small bowl
Peel the egg
Chop the egg up into the bowl
Add the mayo, mash the egg up and mix with the mayo
Add in the mustard- this is to taste preference. Mix it in.
Put the egg mixture on one of the slices of bread and put the other slice on top.
Cut it the way you prefer.
Grab your tea
Sit down and eat. Yummy, fast, easy.
Taste preference for Colman’s and mayo
When I prepare my sandwiches I use about ½ tsp of Colman’s but the best way to see how you like it is to add a little at a time to get to the taste you prefer.
My family and I use light mayo-If you prefer regular that’s fine. I’m the one that doesn’t put sugar in tea so have things the way you like them.
If you can not find Colman’s mustard in your grocery store it is available on Amazon Prime. It is the wet mustard and you don’t need a big container as you are only using a tsp at a time.
Larger quantities
If you are making sandwiches for more than one person, use the same technique by doubling etc but be aware of the Coleman’s and add that slowly until you get the flavor you think you and your guests would like. I usually do white and honey wheat bread when I have guests and need a large batch.
Hard boiled egg tips
They are easiest to peel straight away-especially if you are doing Devilled eggs.
You do not have to eat them straight away as I have said I cook a batch of the eggs and leave them in the fridge for the week.
If eggs overcook they will be a little green/gray-still edible
If an egg cracks in the pot it’s still ok.
Eggs are also easiest to peel if they are fresh eggs (there are expiration dates on egg cartons)
If eggs are not good they float to the top of the water when you boil them.
I hope you enjoy your yummy quick and easy egg salad sandwich. Let me know if you give them a try or what tea you would drink with them.
