You know me-always on an adventure for tea. Whenever I go somewhere new I always look for any local tea shops. There is nothing more exciting than finding someplace interesting to try teas. There are actual tea shops in Texas but I mostly find coffee shops. Before I go to a new coffee shop I always do what a tea lover should do, go online and check out their tea selection. That’s how I found the Indy Coffee Club in San Antonio.
University of Texas San Antonio-U.T.S.A.
My tea drinking daughter had a music audition at the University of Texas in San Antonio. So what could I do when I was there? I put U.T.S.A. and tea shop in my Google search and up popped Indy Coffee Club. I checked out their menu. Yay! Tea and some munchies, perfect!
Indy Coffee Club
So my top notch team of tea reviewers (my husband, hot tea drinking daughter and myself) headed over for a bite and of course tea!
We got a but lost looking for it but once we found it, it was worth it. On the website I saw that on Saturdays they have brunch from 9am-1pm. We snuck in just under the wire at 12:50pm and asked if we could still get it. We were able to order so my husband ordered biscuits with chorizo gravy with an egg. I went with avocado on toast (that is sold all day) and we all had chai.
The Coffee Shop
The coffee shop itself is really cute. It is very industrial with exposed pipes etc. There is bar seating, table seating and outside seating available. Even though there were lots of people there was still plenty of room. It seemed like a very social place with tables full of chatty friends. I noticed next to each table was an outlet, good for a laptop or phone charger-that is if you’ve forgotten your portable block charger. Great for all the college students that live nearby.
The Barista
Our Barista was so nice. We sat at the bar and saw how he made the chai. It wasn’t rushed but more an experience as he poured the chai into each large cup, I wish I had taken a photo of him doing that but I didn’t want to be TOO creepy. I also saw him making Matcha tea and iced coffees for other patrons, always friendly and chatting away.
Our food and tea arrived
Now to the important stuff-my tea. This was truly a treat-a ginger spiced chai. It was so good and had so much flavor. We all agreed this was an awesome chai. My hot tea drinking daughter, who was not hungry when we got there, suddenly realized she was hungry when she saw how good my food looked, so we shared. There was plenty. Our consensus. Wow! Super yum on everything.
Tea
As this is a coffee shop I made sure to check out their tea selections. There was a variety of teas: the chai of course, Matcha tea, iced or hot tea. Iced tea selections according to the website come sweet or unsweet with rotating varieties. Hot tea also comes with rotating varieties.
History
I did a quick scan online about the history of Indy Coffee Club. It seems that they began as a coffee truck until they became brick and mortar. Look them up, it was cool reading their back story. Look under Indy Coffee Club or Indy Coffee Company San Antonio.
Would I go again
I would definitely go again. Would I recommend it? Yes-in an instant. If you are ever in San Antonio and especially near the University of Texas in San Antonio I hope you have time to check out the Indy Coffee Club. Let me know if you do-I would love to hear your experience and what tea you tried.
Thanks tea lady! No reason to go to UTSA but now I do!
That is great to hear-I hope you enjoy it too!
