TRAGIC NEWS! My electric kettle just up and died. Not a hint, a note or break-up text, she just went kaput. I tried to put the kettle on for my afternoon tea and nothing! In distress I needed a plan, fast. I could use the microwave for my yummy PG Tips- but that doesn’t warm to the desired boil. No, Amazon Prime here I come. This is how I found my Miroco EK001 electric kettle.
I’m not saying I was cheating on my kettle and looking around at other options before her demise but when I told my husband about my awful news he said- “Sure you didn’t accidentally drop it under the wheels of your car?”
GASP!
Tough Choices
I wouldn’t say that I am picky but everyone else would, so it took me a few hours to choose my new kettle. I started with the basic list of what I wanted: an electric kettle.
So many options
- Style of kettle
- Heat setting
- Auto shut off
- Glass
- Stainless
- Warmer
- Detachable filter
- Boil dry
- Fast boil
- And on and on
Things I wanted
After looking at the options I decided on some things that I would like.
Tea Temperature Setting
Ok so this was possibly what I may have been thinking about when my current kettle was still working. She did not have that feature. As I have gone on my tea journey I am already curious about heat settings designed for green, oolong, white, black and delicate varieties of tea.
Limescale free
Due to the limescale issue I deal with in central Texas I decided glass kettles were out but they were tempting. Also I would need a detachable filter to help with the issue.
Size
I wanted the kettle to hold a large amount of water.
Detachable base
It’s what I am currently used to.
Boil dry
Great feature that the kettle will turn off automatically to not boil dry.
Heat setting options
- There are manually adjustable settings
- There are just temperatures
- There are temperatures with teas listed
I did not want the manual heat setting so I ruled those out and was down to four choices and compared them side by side. Two with just temperatures and two with temperature and tea pairing. I finally decided I wanted one with tea pairings.
Miroco EK001
After going through many reviews on my top 2 choices I decided the Miroco EK001 had everything I wanted and more.
6 temperature settings for delicate, green, white, oolong and black tea. There is also a French press setting.
- Size 1.7 L 1.8 quart
- BPA free
- Fast boil
- There’s a warmer
Initial thoughts when it arrived
It arrived the next day. Thanks to Amazon Prime I only had 1 bleh cup of tea.
After I cleaned it out and read directions I was ready to go.
How it worked
It was so quiet at first I didn’t think I had it on until it started to warm up.
When you set it to your desired temperature the light blinks and not solid so another reason I did not think it was turned on correctly.
The max level and the amount of water on the inside were different than my old kettle so I needed to pay attention to that.
The water level is in Liters and cups so I liked that additional feature.
Beeps to finish.
To open the lid you press a button on the top to fill up the kettle so that will take some getting used to.
Time to boil on the default setting with water at max level 6 minutes, 59 seconds.
Keep warm setting heats the water back up as it starts to cool down.
It’s new but I had to let you know ASAP. I’ve only had multiple cups of black and green tea as well as a French press so far. I have loved all. I’ll let you know about the other teas and keep you updated on my continual thoughts on the Miroco EK001.
I hope you enjoy some fantastic teas this week-let me know of any I should try with my new kettle.
