BOO!!! Oh yes it’s my favorite time of year. My inside decorations are up, and my front garden is full of bones, tombstones, flamingo skeletons and some witches legs hanging out of a cauldron. Welcome bats and spooky spiders and let’s put the kettle on for some Halloween tea-Stormy Night and Monster Mash by David’s tea.
David’s Halloween Teas
It was a dark and stormy night……ok not exactly. I found this tea a year ago. I was hanging out in an Air B & B in Chicago enjoying some cooler air and bumming around David’s Tea website. You know how much I love David’s tea so I found some yummy sounding teas that I needed to have. Well I’m not sure I needed them exactly :). Stormy Night and Monster Mash were my top two picks. Luckily I still have enough to celebrate this season before replenishing. You’ve got to love the shelf life of tea.
Tea shelf life
I have noticed that the subject of shelf life of tea provides various answers but the most important thing I took note of is that teas do not go bad-even if there is a Best By date-it is just the taste degrades The best rule of thumb for a longer life for tea flavor is to keep teas sealed or tinned in a dark space away from heat, light or air. Tea in paper packaging may be better traded to tea canisters. Thank goodness there is a way to prolong tea life as my Halloween tea is still a welcome treat.
Stormy Night/Nuit d’orage
This is a black tea that has a medium caffeine level and according to the packaging this chocolate, cinnamon, coconut, vanilla tea is hotter than an inferno and smoother than silk.
Ingredients
- Organic black tea
- Dark chocolate (cocoa beans, sugar, cocoa butter, ground vanilla bean, ancho chilli, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt, allspice, clove, chipotle chilli)
- Coconut flakes
- Natural vanilla flavoring
Brewing directions
Add 16 oz of near boiling water over 1-2 perfect spoons (a perfect spoon size is equivalent to 1 tablespoon) for 4-7 minutes
Taste
I brewed this tea for my top notch tea reviewers again. As I like a stronger tea I went for the 7 minute brew. The yummy chocolatey smell you get when opening this package still carries into the brewed tea. When drinking you get a mild chilli flavor which you would think could be strange but it is not. It’s a thoroughly enjoyable tea. This time around I added some soy creamer for personal preference and I’m nuts for soy creamer right now, my daughter still prefers it plain. This tea is very tasty-not only for Halloween.
Monster Mash/Grande trouille
According to the packaging this is a rooibos pumpkin butter and cinnamon tea-no other description. Rooibos is caffeine free.
Ingredients
- Rooibos
- Pumpkin
- Cinnamon
- Apple
- Sugar
- Carrots
- Ginger
- Sugar sprinkles (sugar, rice flour, cocoa butter, potato starch, anthocyanins)
- Nutmeg
- Natural flavoring
Brewing directions
Pour 16 oz of boiling water over 1-2 perfect spoons for 4-5 minutes.
Taste
This rooibos is a huge hit with my husband and daughter-I enjoy it but find I need to add a little more tea than the amount of tea suggested for myself to get the stronger taste. Thats why loose tea is such a great way to drink tea-it can be adapted to anyone’s taste. This tea is also a hit.
Spooky sampler Packs
I went to David’s Tea website to stock up on a few of my favorites Pumpkin Chai and Cream of Earl Grey when I found a spooky sampler set! You know I love sampler sets-this one included: Strawberry Gummy, Stormy Night, Peanut Butter Cup, Monster Mash and Magic Potion. You know that ended up in my cart. I cant wait to try more spooky teas.
