There is nothing better for any afternoon tea, tea party or tea get together than scones. I love scones, some clotted cream, jam and a creamy cup of Earl Grey by DAVID’s Tea. Scones and any favorite variety of teas always hit the spot and make any event a hit. So the easiest way to make scones for me was to buy them premade until I found the quick and easy Scones by Sticky Fingers bakeries. Just add water-Bam! Scones.
How I found the Scones
I love World Market, not only do they have tea but they have marmite, pickled onions, aero’s, Christmas crackers, licorice, housewares, incense, furniture, bath stuff, candles–ok someone needs to pull me out of this store! I need an intervention! Anyway when I was wandering around the store, hitting every aisle looking for my pickled onions and goodies, I found it: Sticky Fingers Scones.
Sticky Fingers Scones
I was skeptical at first and thought this easy scone mix was too good to be true, so I just picked out the the packet that was original flavor, grabbed some clotted cream and jam and took them home to try them. No sooner than they were made, they were gone. They became a huge hit in my house so I went back for more. There was a variety of flavors of the scones so I tried another original and a raspberry. The third trip I picked up a variety.
The ones I have tried
Original
Raspberry
Strawberry
Blueberry
Lemon and lemon grass
Raspberry White chocolate
I thought the flavors the store carried were a large variety then I looked online- the list is HUGE and they even offer a gluten free option. Some of the variety of flavors are:
Vanilla Chai
Spiced Eggnog
Maple Oat with Maple Glaze
Coconut Chocolate Chip
Carrot Spice
That barely scratches the surface.
Where You can Find Them
Besides the world market store you have the Sticky Fingers Bakeries site, World Market online option and Amazon (with prime). There are single or variety packs and both Amazon and World Market online and in store carry clotted cream or Devon double cream. A lot of local grocery stores may not. There is a way to make it from scratch but for quick and easy store bought works for me.
Size of scones
How I make the scones depends on the event. If it is with a variety of other mini bites, or for children or a quick nibble at home, I make smaller scones. That began when the directions said to use heaping tablespoons to make 12. My heaping tablespoons made 21 so I knew if I wanted larger ones to use a larger spoon or more like 2 tablespoons.
According to the package you add the pack and ⅔ cup of water to make a sticky dough. More water if needed. I followed the directions and added 4 more tablespoons to make it easier to use (2 tablespoons at a time).
The mini scones come out perfectly for me- I did these for 14 minutes at 375°F
The larger scones I baked these for 16 minutes at 375°F.
The end result is just yummy and I hope you love them as much as me.
The how to eat scones debate
Not only is there a mik debate of which comes first the milk or the tea but there the debate about what comes first the clotted cream or jam?
Devon versus Cornwall
The Devonish way to eat a scone is to break the scone in half use the clotted cream then jam
The Cornish way is to eat a scone is to break the scone in half add jam then the clotted cream.
Now some people do not like clotted cream. The madness. The Sticky Fingers Bakeries scones could be used with jam or butter for those individuals.
