Tea at the St. Anthony

It’s always nice to have a little getaway and recently I had the chance to stay at the St Anthony hotel in downtown San Antonio.  The St. Anthony is a beautiful old hotel and it is in the heart of downtown close to theatres, restaurants, the riverwalk and the biggest San Antonio attraction, the Alamo.

Awning at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio Texas

The St Anthony was built in 1909. This luxury hotel has a rooftop pool, a sky terrace, wonderful old features and great amenities. One of the biggest highlights of our trip away, besides seeing old friends, was my last cup of tea at the St. Anthony as we stopped for breakfast at The Gallery On The Park.

The Hotel

Our hotel room was on the 9th floor and overlooked the San Antonio winter outdoor ice skating rink in Travis Park. Our hotel room was so comfy and cozy I could have just stayed there all night but the hotel definitely needed to be checked out. This fantastic hotel was full of such charm from old mail chutes to crystal chandeliers, fireplaces, reading nooks and it had a fabulous old piano. It’s an absolutely stunning hotel. We had a wonderful time seeing old friends and meeting some new. Great talks of travel and of course tea.

Heading out

My husband hit a nearby Starbucks in the a.m. and we had a quick chai. We packed up and we were on our way until we saw an area with beautiful large windows overlooking Travis Park where breakfast was being served. We decided on having a late breakfast at one of the hotel restaurants, The Gallery On The Park.

Tea

This beautiful setting was the perfect spot for tea. I was given a few choices for tea and opted for the English Breakfast. When my tea arrived I received 4 tea bags of tea-2 different kinds as our waitress wasn’t sure which one I said I wanted. Yay for me-bring on the tea! My selection was Harney Tea English Breakfast and Organic Earl Grey Supreme. I have become a Harney Tea fan and both were delicious! I also had a granola, fruit and yogurt cup and my husband the Huevos Rancheros. The setting was absolutely lovely and everything we had was so yummy. It was a great way to end our stay.

Not to worry non tea drinkers, there are coffees, espressos, lattes, smoothies, juices -oh and mimosas on the breakfast menu so something for everyone. Breakfast hours are 6:30am-10:30am weekdays, 6:30am-11am on the weekends.

I verified with the hotel and as well as breakfast The Gallery On The Park also serve brunch and lunch. Lunch on weekdays 11am-2pm and brunch on the weekends 11am-2pm. Reservations can be done online through open table or through the hotel over the phone.

If plans permit the St. Anthony is a great place to stay but if you are ever going to  downtown San Antonio you may want to visit the St Anthony and especially The Gallery On The Park. I plan on going there again. I can’t wait to check out a weekend brunch!

Love it! It’s so fun to feel fancy! My church is St. Mark’s across the park. When we were in jr high and high school, some of us girls would occasionally skip out of Sunday school (Oh my! Now the secret is out!!!) and scurry over to the St Anthony for a hot chocolate, then race back within an hour, before our parents got out of service! I think it’s definitely time to return and reminisce over a cup of tea!!! Thank you, Denise!
