Republic of Tea Root to Petal Cascara Grape Tea tin with a valentine mailbox,Love and hearts decoration

Root to Petal

No matter where I go I am always on the lookout for tea. I used to think World Market was the only store that I can never leave without a new tea in hand but now I think I should start avoiding grocery stores as well for my tea obsession. A quick stop in at Whole Foods was not an exception. Looking over their variety of tea I was struck by Root to Petal by Republic of Tea.

Root to Petal

What intrigued me about these teas were that they use the whole plant not just the leaves. I had never seen that before and decided that this was definitely worth a try. The two they had to choose from were Dandelion Mint and Cascara Grape.

Decisions….Decisions

Dandelion Mint- Dandelion has cleansing properties and is added with mint. That sounded very yummy.

Cascara Grape-red wine grape skins and the fruit around the coffee bean-giving the benefits of coffee and wine without the alcohol.  I thought of the benefits of this not necessarily the wine :).

Sustainable whole plant sipping

  • Roots
  • Twigs
  • Stems
  • Leaves
  • Pods
  • Fine wine grape skins

Ingredients

  • Low caffeine
  • Cascara
  • Biodynamic hibiscus
  • Fine red wine grape skins

At first I thought this would be loose tea but the container holds 36 teabags-written on the packaging that there are no strings or staples with the teabags.

Brewing

The packaging said to use 1 tea bag per 6 oz. I love to use a teapot so I used our Kitchen Kite teapot and placed 3 tea bags in the infuser as I wanted to make a large pot. The directions said to add boiling water and steep for 5-7 minutes. I chose to go with the 7 minute time.

Valentines Treat

I decided to use this tea over Valentines weekend. The color was so beautiful, appearing dark red in the teapot-perfect for a valentine spread. I’m glad I used the glass teapot for it with the teabags hidden.

Our thoughts

My hot tea drinking daughter was not around for the first tasting but tried some later.  Taste- Both my daughter and I liked it-it was mild and fruity. By the red wine description I thought it would be stronger so I was pleasantly surprised. My husband was not as keen on it as a hot tea but wanted to try it as an iced tea.

Iced tea

The packaging also has directions for iced tea and my husband enjoyed it that way. This could be great for when the temps start to climb.

Dandelion Mint

The Dandelion mint tea will definitely be a future purchase.I will keep you updated

Republic of Tea website

Well you know how I like to check out a website to find out a little bit about the various companies that produce tea. This website has many links on things like how to make tea. Health benefits of tea and so on. It also has The Republic of tea philanthropic commitment to good will and social responsibility with a list of current and old organizations they support.

If you get the chance check their website out. I love a good read.
