Halloween is my favorite holiday. A special treat this October 31st was the addition of a blue moon. Imagine my tea lovers’ delight when I discovered that there is a tea that ONLY becomes available on a blue moon. You know I had to jump straight down the rabbit hole. It was time to check out Adagio’s Bella Luna Blue. There was no way I would pass up on a tea that only comes around once in a blue moon.
So what’s so special about a blue moon?
There are two types of blue moon Calendrical is when there are two full moons in a calendar month and Seasonal when there is an extra moon that occurs within an astronomical season. Halloween’s blue moon was the second full moon in a calendar month. The next one will not occur until August 22, 2021.
Tea Exchange
I found out about this special blue moon tea doing a fun secret tea gift exchange. My awesome secret tea sender added handwritten descriptions on every tea explaining why she liked them. She sent great tea related decals, a box of tea treats but also tucked away in this tea package was a card from Adagio Teas with the wording “she’s coming!” Who’s coming? I checked the QR code and I found out we were waiting on Bella Luna Blue.
Bella Luna Blue
Bella Luna Blue is a tea only available to purchase on the actual day of the blue moon. Realizing the blue moon was coming up I signed up to be alerted of when this tea would be available. October 31st the email came so I rapidly hopped on Adagios site and placed my Bella Luna order. There was a bundle available so now I’m also the proud owner of a new Adagio glass mug and IngenuiTEA teapot too.
Packaging
According to the packaging Bella Luna Blue this loose herbal blend has the flavors of lemongrass, blueberries and butterfly pea. When it is brewed this indigo tea creates some added magic when a few drops of lemon are added to the mix.
Butterfly pea
The first time I had a butterfly pea tea was by Blue Magic by Shaka Tea. Butterfly Pea flower has the ability to change the color of tea by adding lemons but seriously, how unprepared was I for this magical tea-NO LEMONS! I decided to wait grrr.
Bella Luna Blue Ingredients
- Lemongrass
- Butterfly pea flower
- Natural flavor
Brewing
- 1 tsp for 8 oz or 250 ml of water
- Boiling 212 F or 100c
- Brew for 5-10 minutes
Taste test
Finally with lemons in hand I was all set and ready to go. I decided to use all my new Adagio tea purchases to try this tea. I did the 10 minute steep. My top notch reviewers and myself thought the original blue coloring alone was absolutely beautiful. This is a mild tea, very pleasant and refreshing, definitely a blueberry and lemon flavor. I then added some lemon and this tea truly transformed like magic. Although the color was so beautiful when we added the lemon we all preferred the flavor of the blue as we thought it made it too lemony. That could have been user error. So next time I will add a little less. I also decided to put some blue over ice. Easily a treat that way.
My extra tea bundle
In my Bella Luna Blue purchase the bundle included the Adagio IngenuiTEA Teapot a 16oz clear teapot is one that sits on a mug and releases tea through the bottom- similar to The Steeper by David’s Tea (these pots are fun to use). I also picked up a Borosilicate glass mug. My special surprise was a 1oz sample of a Yunnan Noir black tea. I love free samples!!! Can not wait to try that one!
Next Blue Moon
