Gratitude

I decided to start a healthy mindset for myself. I decided to think of 3 things I am grateful for every single morning.  

Let me give you some history. I have never been the chipper morning person.  No one should even speak to me until I’ve had my first cup of tea. I have a mug that has etched on the top SHHH half way down  ALMOST  and at the bottom NOW YOU MAY SPEAK.  Yep that’s me.

I have my first cup of tea the moment I get out of bed but my non morning self previously should still be avoided until I’ve grabbed a second cup so that I can finally become human again.

My new motivation this year  was to be a bit more chipper and accept the morning. How this came about was a friend introduced me to the pre order on the Starbucks app.  I’ve had the app for years and had no clue this gem was on there. It changed my life completely.

Now I wake up earlier knowing if I leave house by 7:10a.m. that on Monday-Friday a Chai tea latte is waiting on the shelf at Starbucks for me. I just walk over and pick it up.  As soon as I see the one with my name printed on the cup I yell a loud “thank you” as I grab the tea.

Don’t get me wrong there have been a few days that I may have hit the snooze one too many times and my Starbucks routine did not happen but that quickly forces me to get back on track and enjoy that indulgence.

Hand in Hand with this new found joy is when I decided to think of 3 things every morning I am grateful for.

It started with:

  1. I am grateful for a parking spot at Starbucks
  2. I am grateful I left for work on time so that I can get Starbucks
  3. I am just grateful there is a Starbucks

This philosophy soon evolved.  It was not anything that needed to be complex just 3 things I am grateful for. Sometimes I have to force myself to find what it is that particular morning, especially if I have left the house late and my Chai was not ordered.

What I have discovered about my 3 things of gratitude is that it lightens my mood and it clears my mind to proceed with my day.

  1. I am grateful it’s not raining
  2. I am grateful the car in not on E
  3. I am grateful my daughter no longer has a stomach bug

Or

  1. I am grateful that pothole did not give me a flat
  2. I am grateful that I am no longer going to work in the dark
  3. I am grateful I remembered  to bring my lunch

And so on.

So think about it, for a healthy mindset everyday make your routine something that motivates you and clears your mind.  Are there 3 things you can be grateful for today? One of my things today is I am grateful for you.
