The joy of the season is so special but sometimes brings on quite a bit of stress. The way I survive this time of year is with a nice cup of tea but I also combat stress, relax and get a little recharge by a lovely soak in the tub. What makes my hot bath really enjoyable is the made to order essential oil bath salts I put in. Are they the top shelf brand? Nope-they are my homemade special blend-made just the way I like them.
Personalized Bath Salts
I love the smell of essential oils in bath salts. I love the overpowering smell of eucalyptus when I’m stuffed up or feeling a bit run down, sweet lavender to relax, peppermint to add some pep in my step. Adding some pomegranate, lemon or other scents make wonderful bath salts.. There’s a bath salt combination for everyone. Adding your bath salts when the bath is running makes the bath a treat that you can not wait to get into.
Here’s how I make them

I purchased some plastic containers from the Dollar Tree and I used this combination 3 times. I just kept putting it all back in the bowl-I added more essential oil but did not go crazy with extra food coloring
I usually do add food coloring to my bath salts I use cooler color for the relaxing scents to more vibrant for energetic scents. A few drops go a long way so only add a few at a time.
The Spa Experience
If I have a little more time and I am able to truly enjoy a relaxing soak I add a few more steps to my essential oil bath salt ritual. First the bath salts are added as the bath runs, I turn on some music and light a candle. Maybe grab some tea. When the bath is run I add flower heads or flower petals to give it the spa effect. These are the days that it’s very difficult to get me out of the tub.
Kid Spa parties
I started making bath salts with my kiddos when they were young and they had Spa birthday parties. Those moved on to random make bath salts Saturdays. They are so much fun and easy to make, the kids and adults involved always had a blast. My girls still enjoy making them to this day. Highly recommended.
Bath Salts as a gift
I enjoyed making the bath salts so much with the girls that I started making them for personal use to get the scent combination exactly how I like it. Soon I started getting family requests for them so I knew I had a hit perfect for birthdays and the holidays.
Stinky Friends
Not all people like taking baths! I know, the madness. This does not mean I have stinky friends just ones that prefer a shower. These salts work perfectly in showers too. Just put some in a small container in the shower, allow the water from the shower to hit them and boom shower salts. Same effect.
Some of my favorite scents
- Eucalyptus for decongestant and muscle pain relief
- Peppermint that clears sinus and revitalizes
- Lemon cleanses the skin and body. Fights sickness
- Orange removes toxins and uplifts mood
- pomegranate rejuvenates skin
- lavender is calming and sleep inducing
- Rosemary calming
My main go to’s that I think make great gifts are
- Eucalyptus and peppermint
- Lavender and Rosemary
There is no brand of essential oil I recommend over another if you are new to bath salt making. Either start with an individual oil or small pack for whatever fits your budget,
Whether you are making a batch of bath salts for yourself or whipping up a gift or two I hope you take some time for yourself this holiday season.
Now I think it’s time for a nice relaxing lavender and rosemary bath with a cup of Twinings Holiday Spice chamomile tea. Heaven!
