I had another chance to visit the “windy city”. Chicago feels a little different in July than January, a tad warmer and a lot more tourists-well that includes us. My top priority this trip was tea, tea and more tea-no surprise there. I headed back to my very first DAVID’s TEA shop. I wanted to grab some Buddha’s Blend and maybe 1 or 2 more things. The moment I walked in the door though another tea product caught my eye, the Steeper.
BOGO 50% off
Yay sale section! I was so excited to find that DAVID’s TEA had some canisters of tea as a buy 1 get 1 50% off. 2 Buddha teas, a Cinnamon Rooibos Chai and a Cream of Earl Grey later you would think I was done…..but then I went back to the Steeper.
The Steeper
The Steeper from appearance is like a teapot, you still add tea and hot water, you steep the tea to the time recommended, but then you put it on top of your mug and it releases the tea through a valve on the bottom. When you take it off the mug the valve closes. I thought this would be great for work. There were 2 sizes and I picked up the smallest-18oz.
Perfect Spoon
I also found what is called “the perfect spoon”. The perfect spoon is supposed to give you the precise amount of tea required. I thought that would be useful as so many times with loose tea I knock some off the spoon. This spoon is more rounded so it will hold the tea better. I also liked the colors so that was kind of a splurge.
The Steeper in Texas
I could not wait to try the steeper in Texas. I decided to try it at home instead of work as I would hate my first attempt at work to end up a complete mess.
Initial thoughts on the Steeper
- It’s a light plastic (non BPA)
- It has an extra plate that came with it-that was the base
- It is hand wash only
- Non-Microwavable
Basic instructions for all
There is information card included in the Steeper box on how to prepare each tea. The amount of water and tea varies depending on the type of tea you would be having so it’s very handy and easily stored in the pot itself.
There are instructions for hot tea, iced tea, teapop and tea latte.
The process-is it a mess?
I prepared a hot yummy Cream of Earl Grey for an afternoon treat and used the instructions included in the Steeper box. I used the black tea preferred temperature on my Mirocco Kettle 200 degrees (still loving this kettle by the way). I steeped the tea for 4 minutes. Now the moment of truth, I put the Steeper on top of my mug and………..It was awesome. No mess no spills-I was very impressed.
After it had poured a decent amount into that cup I put it on another different sized one and…….Perfect again! No drips or spills of tea from one cup to another.
I love the Steeper, it will be wonderful for work but it would also be great at home or traveling. It is so easy to use and very portable, great to use for an outdoor tea afternoon. I think the steeper would be a perfect gift for any tea lover. It is very reasonably priced $20 for the size I purchased on Amazon or DAVID’s TEA and the $30 for the 36 oz. I already have someone in mind who will get this as a gift.
I was so impressed with the Steeper.I can not wait to take it to work and enjoy some of my yummy loose tea. Maybe I will even share :).
Final note
I had no clue what Teapop was. DAVID’s TEA information sheet has it as putting the steeped hot tea over ice and topping it off with cold sparkling water. Can’t wait to try that, I’ll let you know what I think.
Have you tried a Steeper?
