What’s the best message to get on a Saturday afternoon? That there’s a new tea shop in San Antonio-in Stone Oak. Time to ditch my plans as I had to check out The Tea Crate.
I was so excited when a dear friend sent me a text on Saturday about a brand spanking new tea shop opening-I could hardly contain myself. I did a quick glance online for the tea shop hours etc. grabbed my 2 trusty tea reviewers, put the address in the GPS and was on my way. I don’t think Batman could have left the bat cave faster than I left the house!
The Tea Crate
When we arrived at The Tea Crate I was like a kid entering a candy store. It is such a cute tea room with tables covered with tablecloths, shelves full of teacups, a large array of tea pots behind the counter and scones catching my eye. We could not wait to order.
How to order tea
The way to select our tea was from a variety of teas in small containers that we could smell before choosing. We then choose the amount we wanted cup/ small pot/ large pot and grabbed our preferred cups off the shelf.
Tea in Texas
As I was looking over the tea I realized that I had some of these at the high tea that the Hotel Emma used to have. They were teas by Tea in Texas. I could not wait to try some again. There was a wide variety to choose from.
The ones we chose were
- Mine-Lady Bird Earl Grey
- My husband’s-Austin Weirdness
- My daughter-Alamo Apricot
Food
To accompany our tea we chose some scones with homemade clotted cream (super yum) and avocado on cauliflower toast-sounds strange-tastes great.
The small pot of tea was a perfect size and my Earl Grey with a dash of cream-just yummy. The small pot could easily be shared if you feel like sharing.
The history
We were greeted so cheerfully and I started chatting with the owner about the tea shop. Her husband is English her mother from Japan so tea has been a part of her life forever. Oh my gosh another tea lover-we must be kindred spirits.
Items to purchase
There were shelves stocked with items to purchase- of course my eye was on the tea and tea products but there were candles and other items. Yes-I managed to leave with a canister of tea-it’s a sickness.
Other menu items
Not to worry my non hot tea drinking friends; coffee , soda, iced tea selections are still on the menu as well as sandwiches, paninis, salads and keto scones something for everyone check out their website for the full list
Wi-fi is available.
High Tea
The Tea Crate also offers High Tea with it’s own special area. I did not try the high tea this time but I am already planning on getting a group together and setting one up-I’ll keep you posted.
The Tea Crate had a soft opening on Wednesday and Thursday, Friday was their first day-here’s to their future success.
Their hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10am-6pm.
Enjoy tons of tea this week-let me know of any new ones you try or any fun tea shops you visit.
